How to Make Your Florida Kitchen Cabinets Beautiful (Again)

Your cabinets have seen better days. The paint is peeling, and you’re sure the handles are from the 1980s. Sadly, you don’t have the money to replace them.

So, how can you make your Florida kitchen cabinets look a little better? It’s not as hard as you may think. All you need is a little soap and water, elbow grease, a sander, and fresh paint.

You’ll be surprised at the difference you can make if you know what you’re doing. We can walk you through the steps. Check out this guide to learn how to use these tools to perform a complete cabinet makeover.

    Clean the Cabinets

Your kitchen isn’t the cleanest place in your home. Your cabinets collect all levels of stains and grease. You may notice a difference in their appearance just by cleaning them

Besides cleanliness, there’s another reason why you want to scrub your surfaces. If you want to paint the cabinets, it won’t stick if they’re covered in grease.

Grab some soap and water and give your cabinets a good wipe down. When you’re done, you should be able to see what kind of shape the paint is in. You’ll know where you need to do your touchups.

You can repaint the entire surface or only hit the places that need a small touchup. If you don’t like the style of your cabinets, we recommend the former.

Adding a splash of color will take attention away from the outdated doors. It will also be kind of hard to find a color that will match the original unless you have the old swatch laying around somewhere.

No matter what you decide, grab a sander. Sanding the areas that you want to paint will help your work stick and last for a bit longer before chipping.

    Start Painting

Before you grab a brush, take a moment to remove the handles and other hardware from the cabinet. Once that is done, you can prime your cabinets.

Using a good primer will help your paint stick and will make for a smooth finish. After the primer dries, go ahead and slap on the first layer of paint. You’re most likely going to need multiple coats to get the results that you want.

If you don’t feel comfortable tackling this part of the job, you can hire Paint Masters Painting Contractors LLC

    Replace the Hardware

The job is almost done. All that’s left is putting on new hardware. You can either buy more modern-looking handles and hinges or clean your old ones.

Both options will breathe new life into those old, outdated cabinets.
