Moving can be super stressful if you don’t plan properly and think of potential obstacles.

So the time has come for you to join the masses and get prepared for your upcoming move! Don’t let it stress you out, keep reading to find out how to prepare for a move so you can make the day a breeze.

How To Prepare For a Move

Knowing how to prepare for a move is about more than buying packing boxes and packaging tape. There’s more to it than loading up a van and waving goodbye to the neighbors. So without further ado, let’s have a look at how to prepare for a move, the right way!

Step 1: Make a List and Create a Budget

One of the first things you’re going to want to do is create a list of things that need to get done, and when they need to get done. You’ll most likely already have the date that you can move into your new home, so work your way backward from there. Set yourself deadlines in sizeable chunks that you can complete.

Secondly, set yourself a moving budget. How much can you afford on movers? how much can you spend on boxes, bubble wrap, and other moving stuff?

Step 2: Sort Through Your Things

It’s almost always a guarantee that you’ve got many things you want to keep, and probably many things you should get rid of.

Buy some spare boxes and label them for charity, for trash, and for keeping. Methodically go through each room as you near your moving date, and move boxes as they are labeled.

    Step 3: Take Stock

Once you’ve cleared some of the things you don’t want to keep, it’s time to write up an inventory of what’s left.

You’ll want to create a list of everything, from big pieces of furniture to how many teaspoons you’ve got. Do NOT lose this list, it’s what you’ll use to check that everything made the journey.

Step 4: Buy the Moving Goods

You’re now at the point that you should go out and purchase everything you need to package items up.

Take note of the size and shape of the boxes you’re buying, and try to only get what you need.

Step 5: Chat To the Professionals

Your boxes are packed, your furniture is ready to be bubble-wrapped, so now it’s time to call in the troops. Chat to professional moving companies and schedule your moving day.

Even a Man with a Van is great if you don’t have a ton of things to move. Ensure they know how big the moving load is so that they can quote accurately.

    Stress-Free Moving

Part of knowing how to prepare for a move is also understanding that life doesn’t stop because you’re moving house.

Make sure that you take time out for yourself during all the busy days, otherwise, you might find yourself losing your mind!
